New technique uses a processing technology to suppress odour-making elements
Kobe, Japan – Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) has claimed to have developed a new type of natural rubber that emits significantly low amounts of odour.
The company developed the new NR at its rubber processing plant in Thailand after identifying the factors causing the smell, said Sumitomo Rubber in a 25 March statement.
The production involves a “proprietary” raw material processing technique to suppress the breakdown of odour-causing non-rubber components (such as proteins and lipids) that are found within natural rubber.
The new technique, said Sumitomo Rubber, is a “major step” toward solving longstanding odour issues not just at natural rubber processing plants, but also at tire factories.
