Sumitomo to supply 1,3-diisopropanolbenzene as raw material for Nouryon’s Perkadox 14 organic peroxide
Amsterdam – Sumitomo Chemical has agreed to supply elastomer additives to Nouryon, former AkzoNobel speciality chemicals unit, from a new plant at its facilities in Oita, Japan.
The new unit will supply 1,3-diisopropanolbenzene (DIOL) as raw material for Nouryon’s Perkadox 14 organic peroxide, Nouryon said in a 27 March statement.
Perkadox 14 is a key ingredient in the manufacture of elastomeric products, including shoe soles, yoga mats and other rubber goods, Nouryon added.
Currently under construction, the new plant will is set to start production in 2021.
Sumitomo has supplied DIOL to Nouryon from its site in Chiba, Japan for the past four years.
“In response to increased customer demand for our organic peroxides in Asia, we worked with Sumitomo to develop a plant in Oita to help ensure security of supply,” said Alain Rynwalt, VP polymer catalysts at Nouryon.
Nouryon produces Perkadox 14 at Mons, Belgium and at Ningbo, China, where it recently completed an expansion project to increase its production capacity.
