Company to phase down production at factories in the UK and Serbia “over the coming days”
Findlay, Ohio – Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. is shutting down its manufacturing facilities in Europe to ensure the safety of its employees amid the Covid-19 outbreak and in response to declining market demand.
The company will start the process of phasing down production at the two plants “over the coming days” and each facility is expected to be closed for at least three weeks, the US tire maker announced 23 March.
Cooper said it would continue to closely monitor the situation and adjust timelines as necessary.
The move follows an earlier decision on 21 March to temporarily close its manufacturing sites in the US and Mexico.
The company’s facilities in China, which reopened several weeks ago, continue to ramp up production and will remain in operation, Cooper added.
