Pirelli says operations unimpacted by Covid-19 provisions in Italy

London – Pirelli & C. SpA has announced that its tire production activities in Italy are not impacted by the government provisions to tackle the recent outbreak of Covid-19 (coronavirus) in the country.

In response to the measures announced by the Italian government over the weekend, Pirelli took “immediate steps to facilitate the continuity of all its business activities," the Italian tire maker said in a statement 9 March.

Pirelli has 3,247 employees in Italy and operates two production facilities in Bollate and Settimo in addition to its headquarters in Milan.

The Italian market accounts for 5.8% of the company's total revenues and 7.5% of the tire maker's total production.  

The tire maker said all its employees are currently working at the two plants and that road transport was allowed to and from “reinforced containment" areas.

“Therefore, we do not foresee the provisions issued having significant impacts on the transportation of goods,” the company added. 

All other Pirelli operations in the world are fully operational, the company said adding that the situation in China was “quickly returning normal”.

Earlier this year, Pirelli had to halt production at two of its three manufacturing sites in China, where the company claims to have gained “valuable experience”, amid the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.
