Fleet Diag 24 will involve automated inspection of truck-tire pressure and wear
Paris – Groupe Michelin and AS 24 service stations for heavy trucks have teamed up to launch an experiment to inspect truck tires automatically at select locations.
Fleet Diag 24 will involve automated inspection of pressures and wear of truck tires at AS 24 stations with no intervention required from either the driver or fleet service manager, Michelin said 24 Feb.
Part of the French energy giant Total SA, AS 24 has just under 1,000 outlets in 28 countries. The Michelin statement did not give further details on the participating outlets.
The joint project features Michelin’s QuickScan technology, which can help predict when tire maintenance is required and help reduce the number of physical inspections.
The “easy-to-use, all-weather system” has been designed to cover all types of rig (trucks, tractor units, trailers), irrespective of tire brand, Michelin added.
Michelin said the project is being carried out in the interest of road safety and natural resource savings.
