Michelin, VMI honoured at Tire Tech Awards

Hanover, Germany – Michelin has won two titles of ‘tire manufacturer of the year’ and ‘tire technology of the year’ at the Tire Technology International Awards 2020 in Hanover.

The company won the award for tire manufacturer of the year for the second year in a row, recognising its “commitment to produce efficient, innovative and sustainable products.”

In addition, the judging panel honoured Michelin’s airless concept tire Uptis as the tire technology of the year. 

Commenting on the awards, Florent Menegaux, CEO of Michelin, said the two awards highlighted the French company’s long-term strategy which is focused on innovation and sustainable mobility.

Dutch tire machinery maker VMI also won the 'tire manufacturing innovation of the year award' for its Maxx tire building machine, which has now been upgraded to include light truck tire production.

“The VMI Maxx radial passenger tire building machine maximises output, quality, ergonomics and flexibility. I honour the latest addition to the VMI Maxx platform," said member of judging panel Gert Heinrich, who is a senior professor at Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research, Dresden.

The Tire Technology International Awards ceremony is held annually on the sidelines of the Tire Technology Expo, which is held 25-27 Feb in Hanover this year.
