Italian company was first to be equipped with a Banbury tangential mixer with hydraulic driven motor
Freudenberg, Germany – Hf Mixing Group has marked the 20th anniversary of its partnership with Comet in the field of rubber mixing technology.
Established in 1980 in Italy’s rubber valley’ – between Brescia and Bergamo – Comet was the first company equipped with a Banbury tangential mixer with hydraulic driven motor, said HF.
The technology enables the Italian company to produce compounds over a wide range of polymers (EPDM, NBR, SBR, HNBR, CR, IIR, ACM, AEM, BR, NR), added a HF statement.
In 1999, COMET installed its first intermeshing mixer Intermix ‘variable intermeshing clearance’ (VIC) mixer technology, followed by a second and third one in 2004 and 2014.
In 2012, it began building a 12,000 square meter indoor facility in Brescia, with production now based on four VIC mixers
Another recent development, noted HF, is an extension of Comet’s range of products to include silicone and fluorinated silicone compounds for moulding or extrusion processes.
According to the machinery supplier, Comet employs its VIC technology to produce compounds for applications including automotive, home appliance and construction as well as water and gas networks.
These various capabilities enabled Comet to deliver its best ever results in 2018, with sales of over €70 million and a production level of more than 25,000 tonnes of compounds, said HF.
“With an overall capacity up to 35,000 tonnes of compounds, guarantee by its fully automated production lines, Comet is still a business under expansion,” the machinery supplier concluded.
