Zhejian starts up first phase of petchem complex

Zhoushan, China - Zhejiang Petroleum & Chemical has started up the remaining units of the first phase of its 40-million-tonne/year refinery and petrochemical complex, the company announced 31 Dec 2019. 

The €21-billion (Yuan160 billion) project in eastern China started in 2016 and phase 1 start-up was set for end of 2018, according to the the website of Rongsheng Petrochemical, Zhejiang's parent company.

The company website did not provide further details.

In an environmental impact assessment report  issued in 2016, Zhoushan's local government said that the project is expected to produce a range of chemicals, including ethylene, propylene, and styrene butadiene.

The plant, the report said, will have the the capacity to produce 200 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of butadiene in the first phase, and another 200ktpa in the second phase.
