Pirelli to train Italian detainees for skilled jobs

Milan, Italy – Pirelli & C. SpA has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Italian government to help create training programmes for prisoners to help them develop marketable skills.

Under the agreement, signed during an official tour of the company’s R&D centre in Milan, the tire maker agreed to identify specific work activities to be carried out in dedicated spaces within the penitentiary institutions.

“The aim is to develop the professional skills of detainees involved in public service projects for future entry into Pirelli or, more generally, the labour market,” said the Italian company 29 Nov. 

The implementation procedure of the agreement will be defined by June 2020, and the initiative will be in place for three years, Pirelli added.

The process can be reproduced in cooperation with other international institutions, the company added.

Italian prime minister Giuseppe Conte and government officials visited Pirelli’s R&D headquarter in Milan on 29 Nov.

The centre, supported by 12 other R&D facilities around the world, is Pirelli’s main innovation laboratory and employs around 450 engineers and specialists.
