Dutch company made the selection after exploring multiple locations for its upcycling plant in The Netherlands.
Nederweert, The Netherlands – Dutch tire recycler Black Bear Carbon has selected the Port of Rotterdam for its next tire-carbonisation plant in The Netherlands, the company announced 11 Nov.
The company said it made the selection after exploring multiple locations for its next tire-to-carbon-black upcycling plant in The Netherlands.
The plant will decompose granulate from end-of life tires into carbon black, pyrolysis oil and gas, said Black Bear without giving further details on the processing capacity of the unit.
Over the coming weeks, the company said it would collaborate with the Port of Rotterdam Authority to review the technical and financial details of the cooperation and the establishment of the project.
It expects to confirm the cooperation by early December.
“Port of Rotterdam shows great appetite to facilitate our next plant and has a significant potential for optimisation and synergy of our technology within the Rotterdam industrial complex”, said Silvio Ghyoot, CEO of Black Bear Carbon.
Based in Nederweert, Black Bear has developed a technology with a unique carbonisation process to produce recycled carbon black (rCB) from end-of-life tires.
In a series of fund-raising rounds in 2018, Black Bear disclosed ambitious plans to scale up its technology by setting up tire recovery plants in Europe and the Middle East.
The new project, Black Bear says, is “the next important step” in the global roll-out of its technology.
The company currently operates an industrial-scale prototype plant, which can process more than 1 million tires annually.
