Tokyo – Bridgestone Corp. has received a favourable ruling in its trademark infringement lawsuit against Chinese tire manufacturer Liangshan Water Margin Tire Co., Ltd. (Water Margin), in the Suzhou Intellectual Property Court, the company announced 7 Oct.
The Japanese tire maker filed a lawsuit in June 2018 claiming that the manufacturing and sales activities conducted by Water Margin, under the Fulisitong brand, infringed on it trademark rights.
The brand, Bridgestone claimed, used a brand mark that resembled the company's Bridgestone registered trademarks.
According to the tire maker, in May 2019, the Suzhou Intellectual Property Court found in favour of Bridgestone and ordered Water Margin to cease tire manufacturing and sales activities that were in violation of the company's trademark rights.
Water Margin was also required to pay Yuan 3.3 million (€426,000) in damages to Bridgestone.
Bridgestone said it took any “unauthorised use or infringement of its patents, trademarks, or any other intellectual property” seriously.
The tire maker added that it prioritises the reliability associated with its products and maintaining “its hard-earned brand value.”
