Sales rise at Shin-Etsu silicones unit despite price decline

Silicones business was affected by the price decline of general-purpose products during the six months to end of September.
Tokyo – Shin-Etsu’s silicones business has posted a slight growth in sales and a healthy increase in operating income for the first half of its financial year, started April 2019.
Net sales rose 0.8% year-over-year to Yen114.7 billion (€948 million), while operating income jumped 7.1% to Yen31.1 million, Shin-Etsu reported in its half-year statement 25 Oct.
The Japanese chemicals company said the silicones business was affected by a price-decline for general-purpose products during the six months to end of September.
However, it went on to say, shipments were “firm”, as a result of the strong performance of functional and other products.
