Kiyosu, Japan – Toyoda Gosei has invested Yen50 million (€422,000) in a Japanese start-up specialising in the rapid development of materials using artificial intelligence (AI).
Created by Nagoya Unisversity, Tryeting provides an AI platform that integrates various types of software, with particular focus on materials informatics, Toyoda Gosei said in a 29 Aug statement.
The company applies informatics techniques, such as AI and big data, to materials to significantly speed up the development of new products, the statement added.
The investment, according to Toyoda Gosei, was prompted by the changing landscape within the automotive industry, and other new technological trends.
“Toyoda Gosei is seeking to achieve greater added value of products with the integration of sensors and other electronic components into the plastic and rubber parts that are its core technologies,” the automotive components supplier said.
To achieve that, the company said it was important to develop highly functional materials that can accommodate electronics technology.
Toyoda Gosei will combine Tryeting’s AI technology with its in-house materials knowledge to develop “large numbers of material compounding patterns.”
Such materials, Toyoda Gosei said, will have superior functionality and accommodate LiDAR2 and other sensors.
