Kuantan, Malaysia – China’s Maxtrek Tyres broke ground on its tire site at Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park on 15 June.
The site has designed annual capacity of 6 million units passenger car tires and light truck tires and 500,000 unit truck and bus tires.
The project has an investment of several hundreds of millions ringgit and will create hundreds of new jobs, the company told ERJ.
This will be the second Chinese tire site in Malaysia, following Fullrun’s facilities in Port Klang with annual capacity of 3 million unit passenger car tires and 500,000 unit truck and bus tires that was inaugurated in March.
It will likely be the largest tire site in Malaysia when in operation, according to media reports – though the company declined to confirm that.
Maxtrek is a subsidiary of Zhaoqing, Guangdong-based tire maker Junhong Industrial.
Set up in 2006, the company has 1,000 employees and over 6 million unit annual capacity today, and sells under Maxtrek and Antares brands.
