FFKM doubles seal life at paper mill
Derby, UK – Dichtomatik Ltd has highlighted the maintenance benefits of Kalrez perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) seals in an application at a paper mill in North America.
The unidentified paper mill was experiencing frequent failures of a pump handling chlorine dioxide for pulp bleaching operations, said a press release from the Derby-based company.
The incumbent non-black FFKM seal typically failed within five months of installation due to the extremely aggressive nature of the stream, according to Dichtomatik.
However, following replacement of the seals with Kalrez 7275, seal life doubled to more than 12 months: removing the pump from the mill’s list of “bad performers” into routine yearly maintenance.
DuPont Kalrez Spectrum 7275 seals are based on a proprietary and patented crosslinking system have been developed specifically for the chemical processing industry.
Product exhibit minimal swelling and improved retention of physical properties when exposed to aggressive chemicals, the UK supplier also pointed out.
