Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany – Parker Hannifin’s engineered materials group Parker Prädifa has developed two-component rubber-plastics direct composites that do not require bonding systems and can replace metals in motion and control technologies.
The systems are based on a variety of materials to produce combinations such as rubber-plastics, rubber-metal or plastics-plastics, the company announced 31 May.
Using “advanced manufacturing technologies,” Parker Prädifa said it can convert the combinations for applications in “all industrial markets”.
Target uses include in chassis/housing components with static sealing functions or with rotating shafts; seals with positive/non-positive-locking retention as well as “dimensionally stable” carrier plates with sealing functions.
The composites, continued Parker Prädifa, are particularly suitable for use in the automotive, aerospace, oil & gas and medical industries.
Described as “long-lasting and cost-effective”, the composites do not require primers and, therefore, do not emit solvents.
In addition, the elimination of the respective process steps also yields cost benefits, the company said.
