Kordsa adds new polyester yarn line in Turkey

Izmit, Turkey – Kordsa Inc has commissioned a new $18-million (€16 million) polyester yarn line at its production plant in Izmit, the company has announced.

Equipped with “the latest technology”, the 7 kilotonne-per-annum line will complement the company’s production capabilities in Turkey and Indonesia, Kordsa said in a 30 May statement.

In the statement, Kordsa officials referenced a range of applications for the new capacity, though the company has confirmed to ERJ that the products will be used in tire reinforcement.

The line produces a new generation of polyester yarn products with “higher resiliency and better dimensional stability” in addition to standard HMLS polyester yarn, according to Kordsa.

Founded as a cord fabric producer in 1973, Kordsa is part of the Sabanc? Group, a Turkish industrial and financial conglomerate.

“Our latest investments enabled us to strengthen our position among the largest polyester yarn producers…,” said Kordsa CEO Ali Çal??kan.

According to Çal??kan, today, one out of three car tires and every two out of three aircraft tires are reinforced by Kordsa materials.
