Paris – Bahrain’s national carrier Gulf Air has selected Michelin as its exclusive tire supplier, the French tire maker has announced.
The agreement will cover “every aircraft type” within Gulf Air’s fleet including the company’s new fleet of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner’s, Airbus 320neo’s and Airbus 321neo’s, Michelin said 3 May.
The tire maker will be supplying its “Michelin Air X” tires, which feature the near zero growth technology (NZG).
The NZG technology is claimed to extend the tire’s service life through the use of a composite made of linear polyamide and aramid fibres.
The technology is designed to ensure minimal tire growth, which happens during take-off and landing due to very high inflation pressures.
Michelin has been supplying tires to Gulf Air’s Airbus fleet for the last decade and the recent agreement is an extension of the two companies’ “long lasting and successful relationship”.
Gulf Air has completely revamped its fleet as part of its five-year growth strategy launched in 2018.
