Fire at Nizhnekamsk’s isoprene plant

Nizhnekamsk, Russia – Tatarstan-based petrochemicals company PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim has reported a fire at its isoprene monomer plant on 19 April.

The fire, said the Russian-language statement, broke out at 16.40 on the BC-3 installation of workshop number 1813.

According to the company, 17 people suffered from “burns of varying degrees” as a result of the accident.

All those affected were employees of two contractors involved in repair work at the plant.

The blaze was extinguished within an hour with no threat of explosions or release of chemicals to the environment, the company stated.

Nizhnekamsk described damage caused by the fire as “insignificant” adding that it would not impact the future operation of the plant.
