Bridgestone recalls truck tires in North America for possible steel cord exposure

Washington — Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations and Bridgestone Canada are voluntarily recalling approximately 2,700 Bridgestone- and Firestone-brand commercial truck tires due to a risk of exposed steel body cords in their sidewalls.

All of the tires were manufactured between June 10 and 30, 2018, at the company's plant in Warren County, Tennessee, and sold in the US, Canada and Mexico, Bridgestone told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). All of the tires are size 425/65R22.5. They are as follows:

Firestone FS816 tires, bearing Department of Transportation date codes 2318 and 2418.

Bridgestone M854 tires, with DOT date codes 2418 and 2518.

Bridgestone M860A tires, with DOT date code 2518.

Bridgestone M864 tires, with DOT date codes 2318 and 2418.

The recalled tires may not comply with a NHTSA endurance test requirement or with similar regulations in Canada and Mexico, Bridgestone said.

Because of this, the tires' steel cords may become exposed to the environment, leading to deterioration and rapid air loss, it said.

Bridgestone has notified all relevant national regulatory agencies about the recall, and will replace the tires with a comparable replacement free of charge, according to the company.
