Vibracoustic develops seat dampers for better in-car entertainment experience

Darmstadt, Germany – Vibracoustic GmbH has developed a modular seat damper design concept in order to reduce vibrations “significantly” in car seats.

In a 4-Sept news release, the company said it developed the damper as a result of increasing demand for in-car entertainment and the effect of vehicle vibration on the experience.

“Motions from the car body are transferred to the front seat, where the screens are mostly mounted and therefore to the entertainment system, causing visual vibrations and a bad entertainment experience,” explained the company, which is part of the German Freudenberg Group.

This does not only come along with an unsatisfying travel experience but can also cause motion sickness for the passengers in the back of the vehicle, Vibracoustic added.

The newly-developed special tuned mass damper can be adapted to the given package space inside of the seat. The modular “Reqill-Universal” design concept uses standardised rubber elements based on silicon rubber, which are 100% recyclable.

The mass damper, according to Vibracoustic, can be customised for any vehicle to damp vibrations and can also be used in combination with the airbag inflator, in the steering wheel, the body and the roof of a vehicle.
