Trelleborg, Sweden – Trelleborg AB’s offshore operation has been awarded DNV-GL certification for its Vikodeck fireproofing tiles, the company has announced.
The tiles use Trelleborg’s "next-generation" Firestop material and are claimed by the company to be “lighter and thinner than any current passive fire protection materials available to the market.”
The tiles, which can be tailored to withstand various chemical and mechanical conditions, are designed to offer surface protection against blast, jet and pool fire.
In addition to protection against corrosion and fatigue, the rubber-based flexible materials of the tiles allow movement to reduce impacts that could damage or crack a rigid system.
“By obtaining DNV-GL certification… we intend to identify new applications for the material in markets other than in the oil and gas,” said Christian Kolderup, project engineer for Trelleborg’s offshore operation based in Norway.
The DNV GL is an international accredited registrar and classification society headquartered in Høvik, Norway.
