Detmold, Germany – Steinbach AG has started to manufacture seamless seals of up to three metres in diameter for their customers, the company announced 15 Aug.
The move, it said, is in response to the requirements of industrial customers, including those in the offshore, plant-construction and aerospace sectors.
According to Steinbach, many seals and punched parts were previously limited to a width of 1.6 metres due to the maximum available width of the starting material.
“This meant that larger parts could only be manufactured with bothersome joint seams” explained the Detmold-based company.
Steinbach, therefore, recently acquired an XXL-Rotocure vulcanising calender, which can process elastomers up to a width of 3.20 metres and material thicknesses of 0.5 to 6 millimetres.
“This allows large seals and punched parts to be manufactured without seams,” said Steinbach, noting that the capability has extended its portfolio, for example in the offshore and refinery sector.
