Trelleborg breaks ground on new UK testing facility

Skelmersdale, UK – Trelleborg Offshore UK has broken ground on a new “state-of-the-art” testing facility at its location in Skelmersdale, to simulate extreme deepwater pressure conditions.

The company announced last week that the 630 square-metre unit will house two hyperbaric test chambers to simulate deepwater conditions, enabling accurate testing of subsea and drilling equipment.

The “multi-million-pound” facility, according to John Drury, managing director at Trelleborg’s offshore facility in Skelmersdale, will create the“most reliable hyperbaric testing scenarios”, leading to an increased quality, performance and efficiency of manufactured products.

“With the new test equipment located immediately adjacent to our main manufacturing site, we will be able to take advantage of our on-site engineering support, which will enable us to provide greater flexibility to meet our customers’ testing and delivery schedules,” he added.

Trelleborg claims that hyperbaric testing is “the only way” to effectively simulate deep water conditions and to confirm the reliability of products in deep subsea environments.

Established in 1978, Trelleborg Offshore UK focuses on design, project management and manufacturing solutions for offshore clients.

The Skelmersdale site offers engineered solutions for topside, surface, subsea, and seabed applications.

The company operates as part of the Trelleborg Engineering Systems Group.
