Conti recalling over 5,000 commercial vehicle tires in North America

Washington — Continental Tire the Americas LLC is recalling 5,356 Conti Coach HA3 commercial vehicle tires, size 315/80R22.5, because of a manufacturing anomaly that could lead to a loss of internal pressure through the sidewall.

The tires being recalled were manufactured at Conti's plant in Mount Vernon, Illinois, from 27 Aug 2017, to 28 April 2018, and sold in both the OE and replacement markets in the US, Canada and Mexico.

Conti said it believes the tires with the potential issue were produced during four out of the 34-week period, but "in an abundance of caution," it is recalling tires produced during the entire period covered in the recall notice.

The suspect tires may have cords visible through the innerliner, making them susceptible to sudden air loss, causing a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Conti said 3,917 of the tires being recalled were sold in the US, 61 in Canada and 1,378 in Mexico. The tires can be identified with the Department of Transportation sidewall codes A372 KWUU 3517 through A372 KWUU 1618.

Conti said the problem first was reported in April via warranty complaints from Mexico, prompting to stop production of the tire line on 2 April. Conti as yet has not determined a root cause.
