Enviro to build tire recycling plant in US

Gothenburg, Sweden – Scandinavian Enviro Systems AB will be building a tire recycling plant in the city of Buffalo, New York, the company has announced.

In a 29 June statement, the manufacturer of recovered carbon black (rCB) said it had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Treadcraft Ltd to establish a recycling plant for the company with minimum capacity to recover 30 kilotonnes of end-of-life tires per year.

The MoU will be valid for the next six months, and Enviro hopes to start the construction of the plant by the end of this year.

Based in Wainfleet, Ontario, Canada, Treadcraft Ltd recycles medium truck tires into crumb rubber and also produces clean bead and belt wire.

“Treadcraft is pleased to partner with Scandinavian Enviro Systems of Sweden and their process to produce valuable recycled carbon black for industry from this waste tire material,” said Terry Gilmore, president of Treadcraft Ltd.

Treadcraft, he added, is working with large industrial companies, in several sectors, to introduce the economic and environmental benefits of rCB manufactured through Enviro’s process.

In April, Enviro had to drop a similar project in China due to local regulations.

The 30ktpa plant for Chinese tire maker Vanlead Group had to be re-evaluated following the introduction of stricter local regulations in November last year.
