Haikou, China – A research and development centre for natural rubber has been set up by Chinese and “global” organisations in Hainan province’s Boao region, according to the Chinese news agency Xinhua.
Quoting Yang Yi of the ministry of agriculture at the fifth international forum on natural rubber industry in Boao, the Xinhua report said 19 Nov that the centre would seek international participation to develop new markets for China's crude rubber.
China is the world’s biggest natural rubber consumer, with its consumption estimated to reach 4.885 kilotonnes (kt) in 2017.
According to the September report by the Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC), China’s demand for NR peaked in 2016 at 4.944kt, while the non-ANRPC countries combined consumed 4.577kt during that year.
The Xinhua report also quoted Hainan's vice governor Li Guoliang as saying that the government supported cooperation between local companies and foreign investors in “planting, processing, storage, logistics and trade of crude rubber."
