Omsk expanding carbon black production

Omsk, Russia – Russian carbon black manufacturer Omsk Carbon Group is investing RUB1.5 billion (€22 million) in its production plant in Omsk over the next four years to increase capacity and improve manufacturing processes.

"In correspondence with ERJ, Omsk production site director Aleksey Poddubnyak said this year, priority is being given to “redesigning” part of feedstock infrastructure at the site."

“This involves organising fully-closed discharge of petroleum products from rail tanks, which will prevent the ingress of their vapours into the environment,” he explained to ERJ.

The next large-scale project is the construction of a new 40 kilotonne per annum (ktpa) production line with twice the capacity of current lines. The new line is expected to cost over RUB500 million, he added.

Another important investment, according to Poddubnyak, will be in reorganising the shipment of products through the construction of a new shipping centre.

“Trucks will be loaded at a single logistics centre rather than right in shops,” the site manager said.

According to Poddubnyak, a site has already been selected in Omsk and the project is ready for construction.

The company expects to invest RUB600 million this year, with the figure growing to RUB1.5 billion by 2021.
