PMG expands new China compounding facility

Bergamo, Italy – Rubber and elastomers compounder PMG SpA is set to start up a third production line at its recently established facility north-west of Shanghai, China, the Italian company said in a statement to ERJ.

A third line, for black conventional compounds, will be in operation at the 7500sq metre plant in the Fervent Industrial Park by the end of this month, according to the company.

The Chinese unit is run by a local team of experienced rubber technicians and sales & marketing professionals, and features modern equipment and lab facilities, said PMG, based in Cenate Sotto, Bergamo province.

“Together with PMG know-how and long experience in the rubber field, [the unit] represents a unique opportunity to be close to our customers in the Chinese and Asia Pacific markets,” the company added.

In Italy, PMG operates a mixing plant in Cenate Sotto, specialising in black compounds and two units in Trescore – a three-lines FKM compounds plant with R&D centre; and a plant with two lines for mixing conventional, coloured compounds and silicone rubbers.

PMG's full production slate encompasses compounds based on NBR, HNBR, ACM AEM, EPDM, silicone and fluorosilicones as well as other speciality elastomers.

The FKM operation is a core business, notes the Italian company, which claims to be a leading global player in this area in terms of product portfolio and volume capability.

Romanian facility PMG East in Timisoara, meanwhile, manufactures conventional black compound mainly for customers in central and eastern Europe.

PMG lists its main application markets as including; automotive – especially under-the-bonnet applications such as seals, gaskets and hoses – industrial and oil & gas sealing.
