Shanghai, China – Cabot Corp. is introducing three carbon black products specifically for weather stripping applications in China and Asia, the supplier announced 29 Aug.
The new products will supplement Cabot’s current portfolio of carbon blacks for these markets.
Weather stripping, said Cabot, is a key consideration for car manufacturers when it comes to the overall aesthetics of a vehicle.
According to Cabot, Class A automotive weather stripping surface finishes demand a very low level of defects that could cause visible surface imperfections leading to rejected or scrap materials.
In response, Cabot’s said it has developed a rubber black series to deliver "a very high purity level" with high dispersion and reduced scrap rates for automotive parts manufacturers.
The company now offers two Class A carbon black products, which it said have optimised morphologies to reduce the visual imperfections on the surface of extruded rubber parts.
For extruded rubber product applications without Class A very high surface-critical requirements for weather stripping, Cabot is now offering another black. This can help increase processing and extrusion speeds.
“China is one of the largest markets for industrial rubber products due to advanced technological developments in the automotive industry,” said Bart Kalkstein, president, reinforcement materials segment at Cabot.
