China-based organiser China United Rubber Corp. (CURC) sets the scene and introduces exhibitors lined up for the second staging of the RubberTech expo in Essen

China has become the world’s biggest manufacturing power in the rubber and tire industry since 2010, encompassing products such as synthetic rubber, raw materials, chemical additives, carbon black and mechanical equipment. In 2015, the total output of the industry reached $164 billion (€143bn), with rubber consumption at about 8,750 kilotonnes.

In addition, the general tire output was 563,000,000 sets – a third of the world’s output, of which over 35 percent was exported to the world market.

Other figures of note include the ratio of radial tires, which has reached 91 percent, while the production of motorcycle and bicycle tires reached 740 million units.

With the world’s largest production scale, China is still challenged by weak corporate strength, low added production value and poor brand influence, as well as foreign-trade, export friction. Besides, there are problems of overcapacity, low levels of automation and technical management.

On the other hand, China’s rubber and tire industry is addressing these issues: putting a stop to excessive capacity, strengthening brand building, promoting intelligent manufacture and following the national strategy “the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road”.

The stage is set for the development of China from a big manufacturing country in size to a powerful player in the global rubber industry.
