Vac, Hungary – Michelin is expanding and modernising its Vac logistics centre, according to a press release on the tire-maker’s Hungarian website.
The new unit will officially inaugurate 1 Jan 2016, said Michelin adding that the €7-million investment included the building of a new office, and the expansion of production hall from 20,000 square metres 30,000 square metres.
The centre will serve as a distribution unit to 15 European countries in the region, namely Czech Republic, Albania, Austria and Bulgaria.
Speaking at a 9 Dec opening ceremony, head of Michelin Vac logistics Robert Szabo said that the centre will become a key distribution unit for Michelin.
According to Szabo, the centre will have a wide range of products handling more than 3,000 tires, from truck and agricultural tires to earthmovers.
Szabo said the expansion will allow traffic at the site to triple as of next year.
Michelin has four sites in Hungary. The Vac logistics centre is in contact with the passenger tire factory in Nyíregyháza, which manufactures high-tires.
In March, the French tire-maker announced that it was implementing a €40-million expansion on the factory.
