Chennai, India – French tire-maker Michelin is set to increase its radial tire production by 45 percent at its Chennai, India plant, news reports from India suggest.
According to India’s Economic Times the production will increase to 16,000 tonnes a year from the current 11,000 tonnes/year capacity in order to meet the “growing demand”.
The plant, 60km outside Chennai, started production last year.
Michelin is expected to maintain its focus on commercial vehicles despite holding talks with OEMs for passenger car segment, according to Mohan Kumar, commercial director, Michelin.
Economic Times said that Michelin was also looking at setting up an R&D centre in India that will look at working with car makers to work out new designs.
