Beijing – The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has voiced strong opposition to a decision by US authorities to impose heavy antidumping and counterveiling duties on tires made in China, according to the state TV news channel CCTV .
In a short news report, CCTV said that ministry believed that the US probe breached the rules of the World Trade Organization and US laws.
US Commerce Department ruled on 12 June that Chinese passenger and light truck tire importers were dumping their products in the US at margins ranging from 14.35 to 87.99 percent
The US also determined that producers and exporters of these Chinese products received subsidies ranging from 20 to more than 100 percent.
This is not the first time the US has imposed punitive duties against tires from China.
In the three years from 2009 to 2012, the US increased its duties from 4 to 35 percent, 30 and 25 percent, which according to CCTV caused “huge loss” to China's tire industry.
