London - The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IoM3) is set to vacate its prestigious 1 Carlton House Terrace address in London and complete a move to a new headquarters location, two miles north on the Euston Road.
The IoM3 and its predecessors have occupied 1 Carlton House Terrace since 1972, when the then Iron and Steel Institute moved into the renovated building together with the then Institute of Metals.
The building was leased from the Crown Estate at a favourable rent since the Iron and Steel Institute had invested heavily in its refurbishment. Following a recent rent review, the institute trustees opted to surrender the lease and find a new London location.
The IoM3 acquired the freehold of the office building at 297 Euston Road in December 2014. Vacation of the Carlton House Terrace premises is expected to be complete by the end of this month.
The institute's new base "has the capability to provide those current and future needs identified by council and staff,” said Jan Lewis, chairman of the IOM3. “I look forward to welcoming members and new users to this space, and encourage all of our Institute communities to fully support the transition to the new site.”
The IoM3 was formed from the merger of the Institute of Materials and the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy in 2002. The Institute of Materials was formed from a merger of the Institute of Metals, the Institute of Ceramics and the Plastics and Rubber Institute in 1993.
