Michelin’s plans to start manufacturing tire in England were first reported in this a short item published in the 19 December 1925 issue of the magazine.
“We gather that Messers. Michelin have at present under consideration the question of commencing the manufacture of their tyres in England,” said the report.
Sites had been offered to the company at Burton-on-Trent, Derby, Nottingham and Stoke-on-Trent, the article went on to reveal.
“Any decision of the great French manufacturing concern to locate a factory in England at all is obviously a matter of the highest importance, and should affect very materially the state of employment in the Rubber Industry,” the report added.
