Chemtura’s Mboca-free technology showcased at UTECH Europe

Maastricht, the Netherlands — Chemtura Corp’s range of MbOCA replacements attracted a great deal of attention at UTECH Europe 2015, according to Mark Garrett, the firm’s EMEA sales manager.
Garrett said Adiprene and Vibrathane pre-polymers are a suitable replacement for MbOCA systems adding that Chemtura has “broken new ground in technologies for MbOCA/TDI system replacement.”
The company gave a presentation at the conference entitled MbOCA Replacement – a realistic alternative. Garrett said the company’s replacement product “has the same properties but is even better.”
Garrett told UTECH-polyurethane.com that the ban on MbOCA had been a “well-documented and long time coming” change and that even for heavy duty applications “everyone in the marketplace knows that there are alternatives.”
“Our view has been to have a range of models that are next generation and to create a MbOCA replacement with premium properties relative to what’s existing in the marketplace.”
He said the company was also focused on models for monomer -free pre-polymers.
Speaking about the potential for REACH regulations to impact the chemical industry he said it was fact European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has to take its steps. “There are going to be hard steps and my approach is let’s not get to the hard step.”
Chemtura’s stand also showcased the company’s range of pre-polymer systems for both offshore and onshore oil and gas applications as well as the firm’s “unique” LF technologies. Garrett added that the latter technology provides superior dynamic and load performance for demanding applications, such as tyres and wheels
