Michelin to provide OE fitment for new Porsche models
Paris – Porsche has announced that it has chosen to equip all of its new Cayman GT4 with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 ultra-high-performance tires.
The tire is part of a new generation of road-legal track tires designed for ultra-high performance cars, said a Michelin announcement on 6 March.
In addition to Cayman GT4, other recent Porsche models including 918 Spyder and GT3 will have the tire as OE fitment.
Compared to its predecessor , the Pilot Sport Cup 2 lasts up to 50 percent longer on track, said the release.
The tire combines “bi-compound” technology, which involves the use of different rubber compounds on the inner and outer sections of the tread.
The technology also features “track variable contact patch 3.0”, which optimises pressure in the tire's contact patch.
This, said Michlin. Means that the same amount of rubber is always in contact with the road or track, whether driving in a straight line or cornering.
