Tire product news updates
With this year’s Geneva Motor Show underway, tire companies have taken the opportunity to roll out their latest advances and fitments - both on the stands and through announcements timed to coincide with the show staged 5-15 March:
Japanese tire maker Falken Tyre also announced on 6 March that the new Volkswagen Passat line would be fitted with Falken brand tires. (Read more)
As for new tire concepts introduced at the Geneva show, an interesting concepts is Goodyear’s BHO3 tire, which generates electricity through the action of materials in the tire that capture and transform the energy created by heat as it rolls. In addition to BHO3, a second concept tire – Triple Tube – is also on display at the Goodyear booth. This contains three tubes that adjust tire inflation pressure in response to changing road conditions and is claimed to deliver “new levels of performance and versatility.” (Read more)
Michelin unveiled its latest concept tire, Michelin CrossClimate, which it says “delivers an appropriate level of safety in all weather conditions throughout the year”. Michelin said that European motorists will be able to purchase the summer tire which has also been certified for use in winter, in May 2015. (Read more)
Bridgestone presented its ologic tire, which uses the synergies of a large tire diameter and narrow tread design to provide efficiencies in aerodynamics and rolling resistance, while delivering good grip performance. The Japanese firm has also displayed its AirFree concept tire, which aims to provide a low-maintenance and fully sustainable alternative. it is also said to maximise the recycling of worn tires and other resources.
