New Delhi - India’s commerce ministry has set up a committee to examine supply/demand issues facing the rubber sector in the country, The Economic Times has reported.
The initiative is part of efforts by the Indian government to develop a national policy to support growers and manufacturers of tires and other rubber goods.
The need for a national strategy is linked, among other factors, to growth in the automotive sector in India, as well as the impact of low prices on rubber growers.
The Indian government is particularly keen to address India’s trade balance in rubber. Imports are expected to increase by around 25 percent this year to approach 400 kilotonnes, according to the report.
